Rough Cut - (1/2/16)

Audience Feedback - (3/2/16)

Above is the focus group we constructed in order to gather audience feedback for our rough cut. The reason we gathered two males and two females within our target age range is so that we can make alterations to our rough cut that we appeal and attract our mass audience. The questions we asked the group included their first impressions in which we received replies stating that it was humorous, well choreographed and had fluid continuity. We also asked them who was their favourite character to which the majority replied with the female character. This was no surprise as this was meant to be our main comedic element to make the video fun and entertaining, just like with our preliminary task. After this we discussed our setting and whether they were appropriate for the pop genre. Josh Cant mentioned that he thought that the hall at the end connoted a disco atmosphere which is what we were aiming at, because a convention of the pop genre is dance performances, the type you’d see people do at a disco or club. The next question we asked was about the costumes and whether you would typically see them in videos from the pop genre. To this Jade discussed how she thought they were very current and therefore appealed to the younger generation. This again is something that we wanted to include so that our artists appeal to the value of youthfulness (Goodwin’s ‘common values’ theory). However although gathering feedback on the things our audience liked most about our video gave us an idea on whether our rough cut was successful in appealing to our target audience or not, we also needed to include a question about the improvements we could make in order to satisfy them even more. After asking this question, the main points that I feel we need to improve on are the typography as the black font is negative and doesn’t match the pop genre. The camerawork when dancing as at times it was a little shaky which was stated by Lewis Haynes. Again the camerawork at the end as the female character walks away is to long (discussed by Ella) meaning that when she turns back you can’t see her wink to the camera which would of add another element of humour to the video. Therefore after taking these points into consideration, when we finalise our video we will have to ensure that we make some noticeable improvements based around what our target audience stated in the focus group in order to appeal more to them and consequently attract a mass audience.
