Contacting our Chosen Artist - (7/9/15)
Olly Murs
Today our group (myself, Rob, Josh and Mohsin) discussed ideas on who we thought our chosen artist should be. As we wanted to create a similar feeling video to our preliminary task (non-serious), we decided that a male pop artists would be most appropriate as they have the connotations of being fun, foolish and a bit cheeky. These are the sorts of things we wanted to portray to our audience about ourselves. Also as all four members of the group are male, we could more closely represent a male artist due to it being more believable that we're singing the song. We next had to decide whether we wanted to choose a signed or unsigned artist for our music video. This was a more difficult decision as we were fully aware that by choosing a signed artist we could be compared to their pre-constructed representation. However by choosing a song from their album without a video, we thought we could get around this as there would be nothing to compare it to, making our ideas more individualised. Collectively we decided on the artist Olly Murs for our music video and specifically the song 'Did You Miss Me'. Although Olly Murs is obviously a signed artist and produced many videos before, the song we have chosen does not have a video and therefore our ideas won't be compared or influenced by his star imagery. Furthermore we all really like the sound of the song and thought it would be perfect to represent ourselves in the non-serious way we intend as it's very upbeat. Below is an email to Olly Murs' record label Epic Records asking them for their permission to use his song 'Did You Miss Me'.
