Creating a Record Label - (15/9/15)

Above is the logo for our groups record label 'Rent Boi Records' or 'RBR' for short. I designed this logo on Corel Draw to give it a more clean and precise finish which makes it look more professional. From researching several current record labels, we realised that a black & white colour scheme was usually used making it a convention. This is because it makes it look very defined and is easily visible, which is also why we wanted our logo to be in black & white. We also noticed that most of the typography on record label logo's were in upper case letters, however we wanted to use upper and lower case in ours as the font style we have used makes the letters look almost like cables. This effect suits the logo because the Sloth is wearing a pair of headphones with a cable coming out of them, which indirectly links the two together. In terms of the actual image of the Sloth in our record label logo, we chose that to try to be more unique and distinctively recognisable, while still linking it back into the music industry. From researching other current logos, we have found that the use of an animal as a centre piece isn't such a unique idea, however they usually feature more familiar animals. This is where our Sloth has originality as not only is he wearing headphones, linking him to the music industry, but well....he's a sloth which is bound to make it more rememberable. The over the ear headphones also connote pop/R&B which is the genre for our chosen artist, making it relatable. Finally the inspiration for our name came from a funny name we have used at Sixth Form for competitions etc. along with the addition of records to give it more credibility as a name for a record label.

Overall I think that as a group we have created a very good, professional and unique logo that not only matches certain conventions of other record labels, but is original enough to be instantly recognisable, while still representing our chosen genre well.
